DARKROOM BY-LAWS
The Darkroom is only available for the use of fully paid-up Members of good standing who have completed the Dark Room Course
- The Darkroom must be used for non-commercial purposes only; it is not to be used for any commercial, professional or for-profit
HEALTH & SAFETY IN THE DARKROOM COURSE
- Each new user of the Darkroom must receive a Health & Safety briefing from the Darkroom Administrator.
- This briefing can be arranged as required.
- You will be eligible to apply for access to the Darkroom after three months
ACCESS TO THE DARKROOM
- Members must apply to Council to get these keys – it is recommended that members submit their application when arranging for the Health & Safety briefing in order to have access as quickly as A deposit of €25 must be paid when first obtaining the keys
BOOKING THE DARKROOM
- Darkroom sessions can be booked online up to one calendar month ahead and for a maximum of six hours in any one session.
- There are limits to DarkrRoom access:
- it can only be reserved in sessions of a maximum of 6 hours
- a member can only reserve one session per single day
- a member can only reserve 2 sessions per single week
DARKROOM ETIQUETTE
- Treat the Darkroom with respect and consideration - keep it tidy and clean at all times
- The Darkroom is provided on a basis of trust. Misuse and/or abuse of the facility could result in restricting the use of the Darkroom to all Members
- Always sign the Darkroom Diary, including your arrival and departure times
- If you discover a fault with the Darkroom or its equipment, please inform the Darkroom Administrator and note it in the Darkroom Diary
- No smoking. Please do not interfere with smoke detectors.
- If you are working alone, YOU MUST check-in and check-out with someone.
NOTICE
The Darkroom is subject to the general Health and Safety protocols of the Club. In addition:
- Keep all cables from obstruction
- Each Member must provide their own chemicals and paper and PPE (goggles and gloves). PPE is recommended to be worn when using any darkroom chemicals.
- Treat all chemicals with care – they can be dangerous if mis-handled.
- The bench with the enlarger(s) is the dry bench. No liquids, dishes, wet prints, etc should be near this bench at any time.
- If you use electric heaters, use the plugs on the dry side of the darkroom for safety reasons.
- Switch off the enlarger bulb while your print is in the dishes. Otherwise both the enlarger lens and your negative may be damaged.
- Do not splash liquids on the floor. It should never be necessary to carry a dripping print or dish across the floor.
- The kettle is for heating water prior to mixing your chemicals. Do not use it to heat the chemicals directly.
- When using a dish heater, ensure that the normal temperature limit of 20 ̊C is not exceeded. Overheating will stain your prints and warp the dishes.
- Rinse and wipe dry all dishes, measuring jugs, tongs, dish-heaters, etc. immediately after use.
- It is very important that the wet bench and sink area are wiped down before you leave.
- Before leaving the Darkroom, unplug all equipment (including heaters) and turn off the lights.
- Return all equipment to its storage space, unplug all equipment,
- Take away ALL chemicals you took into the Darkroom and dispose of any left overs safely
- Close all the doors on your way out and remember to chubb-lock the front door if you are the last person leaving the premises.
