Seen to be Heard
is an award-winning exhibition by photographer Jennifer Willis launches at 2.00 pm on Saturday 6th May.
It is the fulfilment of a promise by Jennifer to her friend, Cheryl, that she would help to raise awareness of Secondary Breast Cancer – the disease with which Cheryl had been recently diagnosed. (Secondary Breast Cancer is also known as Metastatic Breast Cancer or Stage 4 Breast Cancer). Jennifer promised that she would produce raw, powerful and dignified images of Cheryl and a group of women all living with the disease and that they would be shown as an exhibition. Their images would be seen so that their voices be heard. In this exhibition the images reveal the physical and emotional pain of living with this incurable disease. It is accompanied by audio visuals of the women telling of some of their own experiences.
None of the women bare their bodies for their own sakes but for those coming after them. The exhibition and advocacy around it have already produced tangible change but there is so much more to achieve. We hope that many will visit, view the images of the 23 women and hear their voices.
